You Matter Charity Foundation Extends Love and Empowerment to the Visually Impaired Community in Delta State

November 14, 2025 Editorial Desk Community Impact, Support for Vulnerable

The You Matter Charity Foundation, led by its Founder and Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and social justice through a landmark outreach programme tagged “Mission to the Visually Impaired.”

Held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Asaba, the initiative provided scholarships, assistive devices, and food support to members of the visually impaired community, underscoring the Foundation’s mission to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey of development.

Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori emphasized that the programme was designed to extend love and support while promoting education, empowerment, and care. She noted that the Foundation has consistently supported children with autism, special needs, and visual impairment by providing educational and vocational materials to enhance confidence and learning.

“Too often, the visually impaired are regarded as lesser members of society, denied access to quality education, and sometimes treated as second-class citizens. But today, we are here to change that narrative,” she declared.

As part of her empowerment gesture, Deaconess Oborevwori donated laptops with screen readers, Braille papers, slates and stylus, talking calculators, tactile learning sets, digital audio recorders, talking watches and clocks, among other assistive devices. In addition, she distributed 120 bags of rice, 100 tubers of yam, palm oil, garri, noodles, custard, salt, and other household provisions to support beneficiaries and their families.

The First Lady also awarded full scholarships to four visually impaired students across Nigerian universities, covering tuition and academic needs until graduation. She encouraged them to pursue excellence, describing education as a tool of empowerment and equality.

In her remarks, Mrs. Lawrentta Ogbedo, Director General of the Foundation, described the outreach as a reaffirmation of inclusivity: “The visually impaired are part of our community, and this initiative bridges the gap, ensuring no one is left behind. Today we reaffirm that you are seen, valued, and loved.”

Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude, with Mrs. Angela Ekure, a visually impaired broadcaster, noting that it was the first time the community had received such meaningful attention from a First Lady in Delta State.

Deaconess Oborevwori concluded with words of encouragement from 3 John 1:2, reminding participants that physical limitations do not define their purpose: “Though your physical sight may be limited, your vision of hope brings light and happiness to the world. Do not be discouraged; keep striving for the best.”

The You Matter Charity Foundation remains committed to advancing inclusivity, empowering vulnerable communities, and spreading love that transforms lives.
